NPP Leads Slightly in Ejisu By-Election: Global InfoAnalytics

The most recent polls from Global InfoAnalytics indicate that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will probably hold the Ejisu seat but will probably have difficulty winning with a majority.

Following the untimely death of John Ampontuah Kumah, the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, a by-election is in process.

The opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made the decision to withdraw from the contest.

Kwabena Boateng, the NPP’s nominee and the second vice chairman for the Ejisu Constituency, is running against Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the area’s previous MP.

The former MP, who has the backing of the NDC, is a threat to the NPP candidate, according to Musah Dankwah, Executive Director and Head of Polls at Global InfoAnalytics, in an appearance on Citiuation Room on Citi TV.

He said that the contest was “too close to call,” with Mr. Owusu Aduomi receiving 47.5% of the vote and the NPP candidate receiving 50.6%.

What he said:

“The polls are shocking, indeed very shocking, currently, the NPP is leading by a whisker, less than a margin of error, 50.6% lead in the poll. They are not losing the seat but leading by a margin of error. The lead is not comfortable.

“Kwabena Owusu Aduomi 47.5%. This race is too close to call. What we have seen is that the NPP again is divided, about 64% of NPP voters are voting for their own.

“About 34% are voting for Aduomi. Aduomi is getting 66% of the support from floating voters and he’s getting 92% of NDC support, and 95% of other party supporters. The only advantage the NPP has is that they are leading amongst their own, other than that Aduomi is leading across the board.

“It would have been different if Aduomi hadn’t contested, he’s a threat. NDC guys are rallying behind Aduomi and that is proving very deadly.”

In preparation for the impending elections in December, the New Patriotic Party held its parliamentary primary on Saturday, April 13. Kwabena Boateng emerged victorious to represent the party in parliament for Ejisu.

The by-election has been set for April 30 by the Electoral Commission.
