Electoral Commission Reports Suspected Bribery Case To Police

The viral video showing an unidentified person putting a white package on a table in front of Electoral Commission (EC) representatives during the Ejisu by-election has been the subject of an inquiry by the EC, which is now complete.

The results showed that the contents of the envelope were meant for the officials’ lunch.

The electoral administration authority said in a statement on Tuesday that “the man in the video, walked to their table and enquired whether they had eaten.”

“He then placed the envelope on the table and asked them to use the contents of the envelope for their lunch, following which he walked away.”

The two temporary election officers’ services had been removed with immediate effect, according to the EC, which also announced that it had had initial talks with the Ghana Police Service to initiate criminal investigations into the situation.

Following its decision to suspend two officials who were purportedly seen on camera taking bribes during the Ejisu by-election, the EC has issued a call for calm.

The commission reaffirmed in a press statement its dedication to maintaining the core values of honesty, transparency, and integrity.

The Electoral Commission (EC), according to Director of Electoral Services Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, has opened an inquiry into the alleged bribery incident involving the two officials during Tuesday’s by-election in Ejisu.

Dr. Quaicoe clarified that the EC’s next line of action will depend on the investigation’s findings.
