Arne Slot Named New Liverpool Manager

Arne Slot, the manager of Feyenoord, has been officially named as Liverpool’s new leader.

Following the 45-year-old’s identification as the man to follow Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, the Reds and the Dutch club reached an agreement in April for a compensation contract valued at £9.4 million.

Having led Liverpool since October 2015, Klopp departed the team after Sunday’s victory against Wolves in the season finale.

Subject to a work visa, Slot will formally begin at Liverpool on June 1.

Feyenoord, who finished second in the league this season and won the Dutch Cup, were guided by the Dutchman to the 2022–23 Eredivisie championship.

The aggressive tactics of Slot’s teams, along with his character and aptitude for player development, are thought to have played a major role in making him Liverpool’s first option for the position.

After taking over as Feyenoord’s manager in 2021, Slot indicated in 2023 that he was interested in managing in the Premier League after being connected to Tottenham.

Xabi Alonso, a former midfielder for Liverpool who helped Bayer Leverkusen win their first Bundesliga championship this year, was reportedly connected to the Anfield job.

However, the 42-year-old Spaniard put an end to rumors in March when he declared he will stay at Leverkusen for the foreseeable future.

Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon was also rumored to have been a candidate to succeed Klopp, who declared in January that he would leave Anfield at the conclusion of the 2023–24 season.
