The African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) 2024 has seen Ghana’s national amputee football team, Black Challenge, become victorious.
The squad won the Monday night finals, defeating Morocco 2-1 to claim the title.
After winning the Amputee AAFCON in 2021, Ghana has now won it twice in a row.
The Ghana Black Challenge emerged victorious in the 2023 First African Para Games Football competition.
Stephen Richard Obeng, the head coach of the Black Challenge team, shared his joy regarding his team’s achievements, highlighting the significant hurdles they overcame with minimal support.
“We feel immensely proud. We trusted in our abilities, and with divine intervention, we have emerged as champions in Africa for the third time in two years. Despite the numerous challenges we faced, we persevered,” he stated, as reported by 3Sports.
Obeng emphasized that their success serves as a powerful motivator, demonstrating that even in the face of limited support, one can surpass expectations and achieve greatness.
In 2026, they will compete for Africa in the Amputee World Cup.
It is anticipated that they will reach Ghana on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
