An investigation into the Electoral Commission’s retirement and disposal of election-related equipment has been declared by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
This comes after IMANI Ghana filed a petition on May 6, 2024, voicing worries about possible wrongdoing and conflicts of interest inside the EC.
According to the complaint, biometric voter registration systems (BVRs) and biometric verification devices (BVDs) that were acquired during the previous ten years may have been handled and disposed of improperly.
In order to support their inquiry, CHRAJ has asked for more information. This information includes the quantity and state of BVDs and BVRs that were acquired in 2011, 2018, and 2019, the price of equipment that was bought in 2020, and the identities of the officials and consultants that were engaged in the disposal process.
In order to enable a quicker inquiry, the Commission has also asked that the relevant data be sent within ten days.
