Patricia Mantey, a former goalkeeper for the Black Queens, has made a public request to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the general public to for financial assistance for ligament surgery.
She claims that the surgery will set her back GH₵60,000.
Patricia disclosed that she suffered the injury in October 2021 during a friendly game on the McDan Astro Turf in an interview with Asempa FM.
She said:
“It was a corner kick, so I jumped into the air and caught the ball. When I landed, I realized my leg had twisted.
“After my MRI test, the doctor told me that my ligament tissues had torn into pieces, and I needed to undergo surgery, which cost GH₵60,000. Although Immigration still pays me, I appeal to the GFA, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the general public to support me with money to undergo ligament surgery,”
At the moment, Patrician uses crutches to help her walk and wears a leg brace to help with her mobility.
In 2012, Ghana Immigration Ladies achieved their first qualification into the National Women’s League (NWL), which is currently known as the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, thanks to the experience of their experienced goalie.
She was a member of the Black Queens squad that won the inaugural WAFU Zone B Women’s tournament in Abidjan, defeating host country Cote d’Ivoire 1-0. She played for the Black Queens from 2012 until 2018.
The 31-year-old goalie also competed for the Black Maidens, who defeated Cameroon 2-1 in Yaounde to earn Ghana a spot in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.
