King Oyanka Files Petition To IGP Over Human Rights Abuse

The Chairman of the World Human Rights Council and Overlord of Oblieman, Nii Ayitey Anumle Oyanka, popularly known as King Oyanka, has filed a petition with IGP Dampare in which he makes grave accusations against the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.

They have charged the command with violating human rights, ignoring a CID direction, and mishandling a crucial case involving armed landguards.

Armed landguards using a grader broke into the Oblieman community park on March 22, 2024, with the intention of demolishing the space that was used by locals and students.

This park is crucial for community recreation and events.

Landguards, known for violent tactics, invaded and threatened residents.

Residents quickly reported to the police, leading to arrests and the seizure of weapons. However, investigator Kojo Addison allegedly released the suspects and their weapons, who then returned and fired shots at residents and the chief’s palace.

Frustrated by the investigation’s progress, residents petitioned CID Director-General Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie to investigate the Regional Police Command. The Director-General requested the case docket from the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, but they have refused to comply, with the investigator allegedly evading directives.

Residents are now appealing to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for intervention, citing human rights violations and safety concerns.

The landguards’ aggressive tactics have caused significant distress in the community, frequently using intimidation to seize land.

The March 22 incident has left residents fearing for their safety and doubting local law enforcement. They await a CID response, hoping for a resolution that ensures safety and justice. CID and IGP intervention is crucial to restoring confidence in the legal process and protecting Oblieman community members’ rights.
