The commissioning of 320 new housing units for the Police Service at Tesano, Accra, by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a significant step towards improving the welfare of Ghana’s security forces.
This accomplishment is a critical first step in enhancing national security and safety and is evidence of the government’s commitment to bettering living circumstances for security personnel.
Speaking to the crowd, President Akufo-Addo congratulated Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Commissioner of Police, on his advancement to the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police, overseeing Operations.
The President conveyed trust in Deputy IGP Yohuno’s sustained dedication to promoting a proficient and productive law enforcement agency.
Highlighting the importance of adequate housing, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that access to decent accommodation significantly boosts the morale and effectiveness of police officers.
A well-housed police force, he noted, is inherently more motivated and productive. With the provision of these new units, the government aims to create an environment where officers can focus on their critical duties without the added concern of inadequate living conditions.
The Akufo-Addo administration’s resolve to alleviate the housing shortage within the security services is shown by the commissioning of these housing units.
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to offering measures that lessen the struggles experienced by police personnel and their families.
This project is a part of a larger effort to guarantee that all Ghanaians, regardless of status or occupation, have access to excellent and reasonably priced housing.
The President outlined the Security Services Housing Programme, launched in 2018 to expand housing for security services.
So far, 536 units have been delivered by the Ministry of Works and Housing through Phases I and II. Phase I (2014) provided 168 units for the Bureau of National Investigations in Tema, and Phase II (2018) delivered 368 units for the Ghana Navy at Tema Newtown.
Today’s event marked the completion of Phase III: 320 new units at the Tesano Police Training School, featuring 112 two-bedroom and 208 three-bedroom apartments, an officers’ mess, a social centre, two multipurpose courts, and a kindergarten.
These modern facilities aim to enhance police officers’ quality of life, boosting their readiness and motivation. President Akufo-Addo emphasized that improved living conditions will foster security and stability, positively impacting officers’ dedication to duty.
The project, part of a broader strategy to boost security agencies’ capabilities, includes providing modern equipment, advanced training, and better working conditions. The President praised the Ministry of Works and Housing, the Ministry of the Interior, the Police Service, and all stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in completing these housing units.
Addressing the officers who will occupy the new units, President Akufo-Addo described the housing as a reward for their loyalty and service, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving living conditions for all security personnel. He officially launched Phase III of the Security Services Housing Project, expressing hope for ongoing collaboration to ensure a safe and secure Ghana.
