RTU Hit With GH¢100k Fine; 12 Officials Banned For A Year For Impersonating Players

When Real Tamale United (RTU) used unregistered players in a Ghana Premier League game against Dreams FC in 2023–24, they were fined GHC100,000.

In their second-to-last game at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu, against the Still Believe boys, the already-relegated team fielded an unregistered lineup and lost 8-1.

The event happened after the registered players of RTU boycotted the game because they hadn’t received their bonuses and pay for six months.

RTU was found in violation of Ghana Football Association (GFA) Premier League Regulations, Section 34(6)(d), for behavior that brought the game into disrepute.

The club officials who guided the team in the encounter against Dreams FC have been suspended for a full year, starting immediately, in addition to the punishment.

Coach Iddi Manzah Alhassan, Team Manager Tanko Jentumah, Team Doctor Abdul-Samed Iddrisu, Equipment Officer Abdul-Gafaru Salifu, and Goalkeepers’ Trainer Sylvester Yaw Apanka are among these personnel.

After being demoted, RTU will participate in the Division One League the following season.

The team’s strategy for the second division is still unknown, though, as some players—including captain Baba Kushibo—have moved on to play for other teams. Samartex recently signed Kushibo.
