Former Leicester Manager Shakespeare Passes Away At 60

Craig Shakespeare, the former manager of Leicester City, passed away at the age of sixty, according to his family.

Shakespeare was receiving cancer therapy in October of 2023.

In addition to managing Leicester, he has had positions at West Brom, Hull, Everton, Watford, Aston Villa, and Norwich. In 2016, he also served as the assistant manager of England.

Shakespeare “passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family,” according to a statement issued on his behalf by the League Managers’ Association.

The statement added:

“While the family are immensely proud of his footballing achievements as both a player and a coach, to us, his family, he will always primarily be a loving and loved husband, father, son, brother and uncle.

“The loss is devastating to us all and we would ask that privacy be given at this incredibly difficult time as we try to come to terms with, and mourn, the loss of a very special person.

“The family would like to thank and acknowledge the many prayers and good wishes sent during the past few difficult months, many of which we were unable to respond to but all meant a lot to Craig and the family.”

Shakespeare assisted Claudio Ranieri in 2015–16 as Leicester produced one of the greatest stories in football history to win the Premier League.

In February 2017, he took over as manager from Ranieri, however in October, he was fired after being given a three-year contract in June and appointed permanently.

Shakespeare last worked for Foxes under Dean Smith in April 2023. He departed the team the following month as they were relegated from the Premier League.

He played midfield for Walsall, Sheffield Wednesday, West Brom, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Telford, and Hednesford during his playing career.
