The Greater Accra Region’s Jamestown saw the Friday inauguration of a state-of-the-art fishing harbor by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

A cold storage unit, a fish processing center, a fire and police station, and a crèche are all part of the new building.

It is anticipated that it will provide the young people of the Ga community with about 4,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The project, which has been a dream since 1965, will now enhance the livelihoods of our industrious fishermen and revolutionize the local economy, the President declared at a brief ceremony.

He claims that it represents his government’s resolve to keep its word and carry out its commitments.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the project will increase fish catches, lessen post-harvest losses, and lessen dependency on imported seafood.

As someone who grew up in the region, President Akufo-Addo expressed his heartfelt satisfaction with the project’s completion.
“It is a personal joy to have been able to contribute to the development of Jamestown, a community that holds a special place in my heart. I extend my gratitude to the Ga Mantse and the entire community for their unwavering support and faith in this project,” he said.

The government was urged to set aside a quota for the employment of Ga youth in the Jamestown Fishing Harbour facility by the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.

“I stand also as the voice of the Ga Dangbe Youth whose heritage is rooted in this land waters. I appeal to the Ministry of Transportation to ensure that a quota is allocated for the benefit of our young people. They must not be observers of this commercial [venture] and major transformation. They deserve a seat at the table to benefit and to thrive,” he stated.
