FIFA Suspends Samuel Eto’o

FIFA on Monday banned star Cameroonian soccer player Samuel Eto’o from all national team matches for a period of six months.

Following an incident on September 11 at the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon soccer association since 2021, was charged with two counts.

FIFA did not provide any information on the events during Brazil’s 3-1 victory against Cameroon in extra time during their round of 16 match.

FIFA reported that Eto’o was found to have violated disciplinary regulations pertaining to official misconduct and “offensive behavior and violations of the principles of fair play.”

“The ban imposed on Mr Eto’o prevents him from attending men’s and women’s matches involving (Cameroon) teams of all categories and age groups,” FIFA said in a statement.

In a legendary career as one of the best attackers in soccer, Eto’o, 43, represented Cameroon in four World Cups and won back-to-back Champions League titles with Barcelona and Inter Milan.
