Pastor Love, Ex-husband Of Obaapa Christy, Jailed On Theft Charges

Pastor Love, whose real name is Pastor Hammond Love, was found guilty of stealing and given a 48-month prison term that includes hard labor.

After a seven-year trial, Pastor Love, the former spouse of gospel artist Obaapa Christie, was found guilty of the crime.

Pastor Love begged for forgiveness from the court before to his sentencing and said he would pay any fines that would be levied.

The fact that Pastor Love, who was found guilty, was a first-time offender was taken into consideration by the court, which was presided over by Isaac Addo.

The court gave him the 48-month sentence because it determined that, in his capacity as a pastor, he was expected to have a high degree of honesty, particularly in areas of trust.

Inside story

According to ASP Frimpong’s presentation of the case, in 2016 a US citizen named Samuel Amankwah brought a 4×4 car into Ghana and assigned Pastor Love the responsibility of clearing it via the port.

After the defendant paid for the automobile in question, the complainant instructed him to sell it for US$50,000 and subtract the amount he had paid in duty.

Afterwards, the complaint instructed Pastor Love to postpone the car’s sale so he could visit Ghana and return the money.

When the complainant arrived in the nation in April 2017, he contacted Pastor Love about his car, but despite repeated requests, he was unable to provide it.

In May 2017, after the complainant filed a police report, Pastor Love was taken into custody.

The condemned Pastor Love admitted to the police during questioning that he had obtained a GH¢40,000 loan with 20 percent interest to pay off the car and was accruing extra interest. As a result, he had sold the car at GH¢80,000 without the owner’s permission and paid GH¢70,000 to the loan firm.

Pastor Love, meantime, was unable to identify the car’s buyer and could not direct the police to the aforementioned lending company to confirm the claim.

The judge declared that the convicted party had lied to the court.
