Bawumia To Launch Local Streaming Platform to Revolutionize Creative Royalties
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and flagbearer of the NPP, has disclosed that Ghana will introduce its first local music streaming service in November.
Speaking to those involved in the creative arts industry, Dr. Bawumia stressed the need for an indigenous solution to support Ghanaian musicians in getting more money for their work.
He emphasized that the platforms at now don’t offer artists in Ghana significant revenue, saying, “Spotify and other platforms are externally owned, so it’s not surprising that the payments to our musicians are very little.”
He announced :

“The issue for us has been to ensure we have a local streaming platform where we can put all the catalogues from A to Z that we can find in Ghana.”
“I’m very happy to let you know that the work has been completed,” Dr. Bawumia shared with enthusiasm.
“We are ready to launch the first local streaming platform for Ghanaian musicians and film producers next month, in November.”
In order to make this platform a reality, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the cooperation between MUSIGA, the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), music producers, and the commercial sector.
He clarified that the platform’s goals are to maximize opportunities for content creators, track royalties, and assist in revenue management.
It is anticipated that this new platform will give Ghanaian creatives a more equitable revenue model, improving their ability to manage and collect royalties and opening doors for the industry’s sustainable growth.
