WAEC Announces 2024 BECE Results, Cancels Results Of 41 Candidates

The preliminary results of candidates who took the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2024 for both school and private applicants have been made public by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The Council will send the school candidates’ results to their respective schools via the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education, according to a statement released by WAEC on October 19.

The Council stated that it found irregularities throughout the procedure.

On October 16, 2024, during its 35th meeting, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee accepted the annulment of subject results for 377 school candidates and 3 private candidates following their investigations.

These applicants were found guilty of collaborating with others during the test or bringing outside materials into the examination room.

Furthermore, all 41 school candidates’ results as well as one private candidate’s results were canceled.

In addition, the results of three private candidates and thirty-three school candidates have been withheld until the completion of additional inquiries about anomalies.

Additionally, WAEC announced that 149 schools’ subject results have had some withheld due to alleged malpractices. The Council stated that according on how the investigations turn out, these outcomes might be either released or canceled.

In general, 569,236 candidates from 19,505 schools registered for the school examination, with 282,703 men and 286,533 females. This comprises 161 candidates with additional special accommodations, 263 candidates with hearing impairments, and 59 candidates with vision impairments. A total of 2,123 locations around the country hosted the exam, and 3,845 candidates were reported missing.

A total of 1,390 people entered the BECE for Private Candidates, consisting of 750 men and 640 women. These applicants took the test at fifteen locations, most of which were in the regional centers. Fifty-seven private candidates were declared absent from the total.
