Otchere Darko Urges Parliament To Maintain Order And Prevent Chaos On Tuesday

Leading figure in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, has asked Parliament to steer clear of mayhem and disorder during its meeting on Tuesday, October 22.

Otchere Darko urged calm in the face of mounting political tension in the House after the Speaker’s order, which declared four parliamentary seats empty, in a Facebook post on Sunday, October 20.

His remarks follow the NDC caucus in Parliament’s threat to take over the Majority side, even after the Speaker’s proclamation was delayed by a Supreme Court judgment.

The Minority insisted they would take action at the next parliamentary session, sparking a deadlock between the two parties over the Speaker’s decision.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court rendered its decision in response to a request for a stay of the Speaker’s order.

The Speaker’s proclamation has been temporarily blocked by the Court’s intervention, prohibiting any quick changes to the House’s makeup.

The appeal by Mr. Otchere Darko comes at a time when tensions are still rising and many people are afraid that a battle within Parliament may break out.

To protect Ghana’s democratic values, he pleaded with all parties to uphold law and order.
