Prince Tagoe Unhappy About Kudus Captaincy Ahead Of Jordan Ayew

Prince Tagoe, a former striker for the Black Stars, has blasted the senior national team’s technical staff for selecting Mohammed Kudus as captain instead of Jordan Ayew.

West Ham United player Kudus was selected as Ghana’s captain for the country’s doubleheader matchup with Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications.

Following regular captain Thomas Partey’s absence from the games due to a medical condition, this choice was made.

Tagoe, a former Hearts of Oak player who played for Ghana in the 2010 World Cup, voiced his worries on Angel FM about what he believes is needless controversy the team’s management has caused.

He said that Jordan Ayew ought to have received the captain’s armband since it would have promoted harmony and tranquility within the team.

He stated:

“You can’t give the captaincy to Kudus when Jordan is present in the team. You don’t do that. Kudus is a very good player, but you need to be patient and allow his time to come before you give him the captaincy,”

“When you do it at the right time, you will see the impact, and he [Kudus] will feel good about it. The confusion in the team stems from decisions like this, and it’s a major issue we need to address. We must reconsider how we handle the captaincy,”

Jordan Ayew was reportedly expressing his annoyance at being passed over for the captaincy during a heated exchange with Kwasi Appiah, the Ghanaian coach of Sudan, after the first leg of the doubleheader against Sudan ended in a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana’s problems persisted as they lost the second leg, which was played in Libya, 2-0.

The Black Stars now have two points and are in third position as a result of these outcomes.

In November, Ghana will play matches against Angola and Niger to wrap up its qualifying campaign.
