Black Satellites Qualify For AFCON U-20 With Thrilling Comeback Victory Over Côte d’Ivoire

Following a stunning comeback victory over Côte d’Ivoire in the semi-finals of the WAFU B U20 Championship on Sunday, October 27, 2024, the Black Satellites of Ghana have qualified for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Ghana U-20 team, coached by coach Desmond Ofei, secured the qualifying by defeating the Ivorians 2-1 at the Stade Municipal.

Ghana tied the score with a deflected corner shortly before halfway, despite trailing early to a goal from Konan Loukou.

Jerry Afriyie, the tournament’s leading scorer with four goals, sealed the comeback victory in the second half by converting a beautifully executed penalty.

To guarantee their spot in the final, where they would play either Nigeria or Niger, Ofei’s team remained resilient for the rest of the game.

The Black Satellites have qualified for the 2025 U-20 AFCON with this win, in addition to moving on to the WAFU B U20 final.

Ghana, who last won the title in 2021 under coach Abdul Karim Zito, is making a comeback to the continental league.

The top four teams will advance to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, while the 2025 U-20 AFCON will also double as the African qualifying competition.
