After a fire damaged more than fifteen wooden structures in the Korley Klottey Municipality’s Odawna neighborhood, close to Kwame Nkrumah Circle, some locals are assessing their losses.
Several properties were destroyed in the regrettable tragedy that happened Thursday morning.
Most of the impacted people were squatters who lived beside the Odawna gutter.
Adom News was informed by distraught victims that all of their possessions had been destroyed by fire and that they were looking for assistance.
Mariam Alhassan tearfully shared, “This is the second time there has been a fire outbreak at our place.
“I have three children, and I don’t know where to go from here. When I went to the police station and returned, all my belongings, including my three fridges, soft drinks, and my Ghana card, were gone.”
ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Department told Adom News that firemen were able to quickly contain the fire.
He advised everyone to use charcoal instead of gas cylinders, especially those who live in wooden buildings.
“While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, it is crucial for authorities to check for illegal electrical connections to prevent similar incidents, as they pose a significant risk to our officers,” he emphasized.
