Sammi Awuku, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Akuapim North, won the 2024 election.
John Evans Kumordzi of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), his primary opponent, received 14,217 votes, while the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) received an overwhelming 28,365 votes.
One of the comparatively few NPP parliamentary candidates to win seats in the fiercely contested election is Mr. Awuku.
Prior to the election, Mr. Awuku was optimistic that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer for the NPP, would win handily and that the party would secure a majority of parliamentary seats.
He had said that he would be shocked if the NPP were to win fewer than I45 parliamentary seats, highlighting the fact that they would use a tactic that the NDC would never comprehend.
The former National Youth Organiser of the NPP, succeeds incumbent MP, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah who lost the election after contesting in the Okaikwei North.
