Stephen Frimpong Manso Appointed Head Coach of Black Starlets

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the appointment of Coach Stephen Frimpong Manso as the new Head Coach of the Male National Under-17 team, the Black Starlets.

A seasoned football tactician, Coach Manso brings extensive experience to his new role. Over the years, he has managed several clubs, including Stade d’Abidjan, Asante Kotoko, Karela United, B.A. United, Kessben FC (now Medeama SC), and Nkoranza Warriors. He is currently the Head Coach of Bibiani Gold Stars, a Premier League club.

Renowned for discovering and nurturing young talent, Coach Manso previously handled the National U-17 team between 2009 and 2010, after serving as the team’s Assistant Coach. He was also the Assistant Coach for Ghana’s National U-23 team, the Black Meteors, from 2006 to 2008.

As a player, Frimpong Manso represented Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, from 1986 to 1995. Domestically, he played for Kumasi Asante Kotoko for eight years before moving abroad to join Al Shabab in Kuwait. Known for his prowess as a defender, he was a key figure in both club and national team setups during his playing days.

Coach Manso holds a CAF Licence A Coaching certificate, a testament to his technical expertise. His appointment is expected to bolster the Black Starlets as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.

In this role, he will be supported by retained Assistant Coaches Nana Kweku Agyemang and Jacob Nettey.

The GFA’s decision to entrust Frimpong Manso with the Black Starlets reflects their confidence in his ability to elevate Ghana’s youth football to greater heights in Africa and on the global stage.
