Mahama Promises Extra Holiday For Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations

By announcing intentions to add another holiday for Ei-ul-Fitr, President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his dedication to the Muslim community.

This program is a component of Mahama’s larger plan to fulfill pledges made during his campaign and to recognize the Muslim community’s contributions to the advancement of the country.

The proposed modification highlights the significance of the occasion by allowing Muslims to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr with two days of festivities.

Speaking on Friday, January 10, 2025, during the National Prayers and Thanksgiving ceremony at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, Mahama stated:

“We promised to add one more holiday to the Eid ul-Fitr. So as soon as Parliament settles, we’re going to amend the Holidays Act to include an extra holiday on the occasion. And so this year, after we finish the fast of the Ramadan, we will have two holidays.”
