The 21 members of Ghana’s historic 2009 Black Satellites U-20 World Cup winning squad have received formal invitations from SAS Finance Group to pick up their matured investment checks.
This comes after the Ministry of Youth and Sports, acting on behalf of the team, completed a 15-year investment that was started on January 4, 2010. As of January 4, 2025, the GHc210,000 that was allotted to each player has matured.
The invitation was confirmed in a letter sent to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and sent to the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Players will be able to pick up their cheques at the SAS Office, located on the fourteenth floor of the World Trade Center on Independence Avenue in Accra, starting on January 8, 2025, according to SAS.
To get their cheques, players need to show a valid Ghana Card as proof of identity. The message also stated that a notarized Power of Attorney might be used to approve a third party.
An annual insurance policy covering each player’s life and medical costs for the next 15 years was also included in the investment package.
Being the first and only U-20 World Cup champions in Ghanaian football history, the 2009 Black Satellites’ triumph stands as a significant accomplishment.
