Minority caucus calls for boycott of ORAL Team invitations

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called on the public to boycott invitations from the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, describing its establishment as unconstitutional.

The ORAL team, created by President John Dramani Mahama, is tasked with gathering information on corrupt activities. However, the initiative has faced criticism from civil society organizations (CSOs) and the Minority group, who argue that its mandate overlaps with existing constitutionally established bodies such as the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

Speaking on behalf of the Minority, John Darko, Member of Parliament for Suame, urged former government officials and the public to reject any engagements with the team.

“Our advice to outgone government officials is clear: boycott any invitation from this so-called ORAL team. We refuse to participate in or recognize its activities because constitutionally established institutions already exist to investigate alleged misdeeds,” Mr. Darko stated.

The Minority contends that the existence of the ORAL team undermines constitutional provisions and established processes for addressing corruption.

The presidency and the ORAL team are yet to respond to these concerns. Meanwhile, the debate continues regarding the necessity and legality of the team’s operations.
