By crushing struggling Ipswich at Portman Road, Manchester City secured the largest Premier League victory of the season and returned to the top four. They looked like their old selves.
After losing a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Brentford in their most recent Premier League match, Pep Guardiola’s team made a strong comeback to winning ways.
Phil Foden was very good, scoring twice and setting up another of the six goals, both of which came in the first half.
Kevin de Bruyne’s cross in the 28th minute was expertly controlled inside the box by the England forward, who then swept the ball in for his first goal of the match.
Foden assisted Mateo Kovacic’s sharp effort from the edge of the box three minutes later, giving City another goal, and two minutes before halftime, he scored a third.
When he picked out Foden inside the area, De Bruyne was the provider once more. His low shot slipped under Christian Walton and into the net.
After a terrible run of play at the close of the previous season, Manchester City’s players appeared intent on proving their mettle with a decisive victory.
