Government resolves CETAG migration issues

The government, through the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), has announced the resolution of the long-standing issue of migrating members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) onto the public university grade structure.

This move comes after prolonged industrial action by CETAG in pursuit of better conditions of service for its members.

In a press release, FWSC detailed the efforts leading to the resolution, including the establishment of a Migration Committee in August 2024. This committee comprised representatives from the FWSC, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Ministry of Finance (MOF), Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD), Ministry of Education (MOE), and the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF). The committee was tasked with ensuring the smooth migration of CETAG members onto the new grade structure.

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has confirmed that payments under the university grade structure have been effected during the January 2025 payment window. Additionally, FWSC reported that the research allowance top-up for Colleges of Education staff has been processed, with the exception of the Akrokeri College of Education, which is undergoing further review.

FWSC commended the collaborative efforts of GTEC, MOF, CAGD, MOE, and PRINCOF for their dedication in addressing CETAG’s concerns. The government called on CETAG to return to work and assured the association of its commitment to resolving any post-migration challenges.

The release highlighted the importance of a harmonious approach to addressing the concerns of CETAG to ensure the smooth operation of Colleges of Education. The FWSC reiterated its openness to dialogue and its readiness to work with CETAG toward mutually beneficial solutions.
