WAPCo Set To Undergo 28-Day Maintenance Shutdown

Ahead of its required maintenance shutdown, which is anticipated to continue for 28 days, the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has started preparatory work.

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Channel One News inspected the ongoing preparations at WAPCo’s Takoradi Regulatory and Metering Station at the Aboadze Thermal Plant.

Engineer Benoni Owusu Ayeh, the Operations and Maintenance Manager for WAGPCo West, promised during an interview that the maintenance will be finished on time.

We are also using this opportunity to fix our sub-sea valves, particularly in Tema and Cotonou, where we had some issues. Additionally, we will undertake onshore maintenance activities. This is the longest shutdown we have had, occurring once every five years, and we have synchronized all activities to maximize efficiency,” he explained.

He went on to stress the significance of the maintenance, emphasizing that the pipeline’s integrity required the prolonged shutdown.

In order to meet the interests of important stakeholders, WAPCo had already announced a two-week delay in its offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection exercise, or “pigging.”

The extensive repair work was originally scheduled to start on January 20, 2025, however it will now start on February 3, 2025.
