Speaker Forms Committee to Investigate Vetting Chaos

A seven-member bipartisan committee has been established by Speaker of the House of Representatives Alban Bagbin to look into the mayhem that broke out during the ministerial nominees’ screening on Thursday, January 30.

Emmanuel Bedzrah, the MP for Ho West, will serve as the committee’s chair.

Ohene Amponsah, a correspondent for Adom News, stated that they have been assigned the responsibility of identifying the individuals who caused the disturbances and suggesting suitable measures.

Speaking to the House on Friday, the Speaker emphasized that any property damaged in the altercations would not be repaired with public monies.

Mr. Bagbin threatened to impose a fee for the cost of repairs on any MPs found guilty.

Speaker Bagbin has suspended four members for two weeks until the investigation’s conclusion for their roles in the commotion that resulted in the damage of tables and equipment.

The MPs who are impacted are Jerry Ahmed Shaibu (Weija-Gbawe), Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli (Gushegu), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), and Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor (South Dayi).
