Former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has been arrested alongside two others in connection with violent disturbances that led to the tragic death of a Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter.
The incident occurred on February 2, 2025, during a football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at Nsoatre in the Bono Region.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that Baffour Awuah, along with Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph, is currently in custody, assisting with investigations.
A search of Owusu’s residence led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition, raising further concerns about the nature of the violence.
Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has assured the family of the deceased and Asante Kotoko’s leadership of a thorough investigation. In response to the seriousness of the case, a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been deployed to support the Bono Regional Police Command in uncovering the full details of the incident.
As investigations progress, the arrest of the former minister has sent shockwaves across the country, with many awaiting further details on his alleged involvement in the tragic event.
