GSS launches CorePME Survey to assess phase 2 of Ghana’s Planting for Food and Jobs Initiative

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), has officially launched the Ghana Core Agriculture and Production Methods and Environment (CorePME) Survey.

This initiative will serve as a baseline assessment for Phase 2 of the government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) program, aiming to enhance agricultural sustainability and productivity.

As part of the broader Ghana Core Agriculture Surveys (GCAS++), the CorePME survey will collect critical data on farming practices, crop and livestock production, and the environmental impact of agricultural activities. The survey aims to support evidence-based policymaking, improve food security, and ensure sustainable agricultural practices in Ghana.

Key Objectives of the CorePME Survey

The survey will:

✔ Provide reliable benchmark data for the agricultural sector.

✔ Evaluate the impact of PFJ 2.0 on food production and sustainability.

✔ Measure the proportion of agricultural areas under sustainable practices, contributing to SDG 2.4.1.

✔ Analyze greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) linked to farming activities.

✔ Assess agricultural inputs, including labor, irrigation, fertilizers, and pollination methods.

✔ Provide production estimates for crops, livestock, fish, aquaculture, forestry, and bushmeat consumption.

Survey Methodology & Implementation

The CorePME survey will be conducted across selected Enumeration Areas (EAs) nationwide, with 220 trained field officers collecting data from February 3 to March 20, 2025. Using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI), the survey aims to enhance data accuracy and efficiency.

The collected information will play a crucial role in shaping agricultural policies and supporting Ghana’s progress towards 12 out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the Malabo Commitments under the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).

Call for Stakeholder Participation

The GSS urges farmers, agribusinesses, and community members to fully participate in the survey by providing accurate information and granting access to their farms. All data will be handled confidentially in compliance with the Statistical Service Act, 2019 (Act 1003).
