A four-month-old infant has died as a result of a fire outbreak in the Kisseman Junction slum close to Achimota-Samodak.
Residents were devastated when the fire, which started early on Wednesday, damaged more than 20 wooden residential buildings.
One of the wooden buildings was totally destroyed by the fire, trapping the baby inside.
The catastrophe could not be prevented, even though firefighters from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations responded quickly.
The fire was successfully put out in around two hours after emergency personnel arrived barely twelve minutes after getting the distress call.
They acted quickly to stop the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, including a warehouse.
The infant’s burned remains were recovered and turned over to the police for additional examination.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commenced an inquiry into the cause of the blaze, which has left dozens of families displaced and grappling with the loss.
