VRA Under Pressure As Dambai Ferry Breaks Down

The Volta River Authority (VRA) is being urged by passengers and merchants in Dambai to fix a malfunctioning ferry as soon as possible, as it has left many people stranded and interfered with commercial operations.

Dambai Central Assembly Member Charles Awuranyi reports that the ferry broke down on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at approximately 9:00 AM.

Unfortunately, the incident happened on a market day, which caused traders and travelers a great deal of hardship.

“The ferry got spoilt on (Sunday, February 16, 2025) around 9 o’clock but rather unfortunately today also is a market day, and some of the cars from the other side to Dambai are stranded and the whole market is so worried as well and those who are from Accra to Dambai to cross the lake to Krachi, Wulensi, and other towns they are all stranded,” Awuranyi stated in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, February 17, 2025.

The breakdown has left numerous vehicles and passengers stranded on both sides of the Black Volta, disrupting commerce and daily activities.

Awuranyi stressed the need for urgent intervention by the VRA to prevent further inconvenience.

“So we are pleading with VRA to take note of that so that anytime there is a problem, they should try as much as possible to solve the problem for us.”

He also highlighted that the area depends on two ferries, but one has been out of service for months.

We are having two ferries here; one got spoilt about three or four months ago, and we are only using one… The workers are doing well, just that it got spoilt, that is why things are not in order,” he added.
