Boateng Eyes Blackburn Rovers Head Coach Position

George Boateng, a former assistant coach in Ghana, has indicated interest in managing Blackburn Rovers, a team in the English Championship.

After John Eustace moved to Derby County, the former Netherlands international was put on the shortlist for the managerial post.

Boateng, who is now without a club following a difficult stint at Coventry City, confirmed his ambition to coach Blackburn in an interview with SuperSport’s Soccer Africa.

“I have seen that my name has been mentioned for various clubs in the Championship, and all I can say is that I have shown interest in the Blackburn Rovers job and that I am interested to be the head coach,” he said.

Boateng also highlighted his growth and readiness to take on a managerial role.

“I have done quite a lot of learning and developing myself as a coach, and now I feel I am ready to be a head coach.”

Meanwhile, other names linked to the vacancy include former Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, Braga’s Carlos Carvalhal, and ex-Young Boys manager Raphael Wicky.

Boateng previously served as an assistant coach for Ghana’s Black Stars under Otto Addo during the 2022 World Cup and later under Chris Hughton at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
