Le Havre forward Andre Ayew remains absent from Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, extending his time away from the national team.
The Black Stars captain last received a call-up in March 2024, and despite being in good form for French club Le Havre, he continues to be overlooked by head coach Otto Addo.
The 35-year-old has been fresh and productive this season, scoring four league goals for Le Havre in Ligue 1. His performances have shown glimpses of the quality that made him a key figure for Ghana over the years, but it appears the national team is moving forward without him.
Ayew’s exclusion comes at a time when Ghana is fighting to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
While younger talents are being given opportunities, the decision to keep out the team’s most experienced player raises questions about his future with the Black Stars.
Ghana will take on Chad in Accra on March 21 before travelling to Morocco to face Madagascar on March 24. With the team sitting second in Group I, every point matters, but Ayew will once again have to watch from the sidelines as the Black Stars battle for qualification.
