17 arrested in Samreboi for illegal mining activities

The Special Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce from the National Police Headquarters has arrested 17 individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities at Samreboi in the Western Region.
The operation, which took place on May 25, 2025, led to the arrest of seven Chinese nationals and 10 Ghanaians. All suspects were immediately transported to Accra to assist with ongoing investigations.
This arrest is part of the intensified anti-galamsey operations in the region, particularly around the Aowin Tano and Tano Anwia areas near Enchi, where illegal mining is threatening forest reserves and water bodies.
The Police Service reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting national efforts in the fight against illegal mining and pledged to sustain enforcement actions to preserve Ghana’s natural environment.
