The Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, Mr. Augustus Goosie Obuodum Tanoh, has announced that the government is ready to begin implementing its flagship 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, following cabinet approval and the official launch held on Wednesday, July 2, in Accra.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Mr Tanoh explained that the programme has been structured into 50 distinct commercial, institutional, and social projects of varying sizes to streamline the implementation process.
“Ladies and Gentlemen: now that the Cabinet has approved the Programme, we have entered the implementation phase. Over the next six months, we have a busy schedule,” he said.
“We are writing concept notes for the first 20 of these projects. These concept notes will serve as our primary tools for engaging with institutional stakeholders, including local and foreign entrepreneurs, financiers, donors, contractors, CSOs, MDAs, MMDAs, community leaders, youth leaders and others. They will be available on our website for interested persons to engage,” he stressed.
Clarification
Mr Tanoh explained that several versions of the “24H+ Programme” have been circulating for some time, but clarified that the programme consists of one comprehensive Full Report, which includes all content, and eight subprogramme reports, each focused on a specific area.
“Ladies and gentlemen, several “24H+ Programme” documents have been circulating in print and online for a month now. Let me explain the format we used belatedly,” he said.
“The programme is presented as nine individual documents: a “Full” report and eight subprogramme reports. The “Full Report” covers the content of the other eight; if you have that, you have everything.”
“Each of the remaining eight documents focuses on a specific subprogramme (Grow24, Make24, Build24, Show24, Connect24, Fund24, Aspire24, and Go24). Each subprogramme document includes the introductory sections of the full report and the chapter related to that subprogramme,” he explained.
Background
The programme, a flagship initiative of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, seeks to re-engineer the country’s productivity architecture by extending economic activity beyond conventional hours and integrating key sectors into a seamless value chain.
The 24H+ programme is positioned as a nationwide economic reboot, with the goal of creating 1.7 million quality jobs within four years. It targets strategic value chains in agriculture, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, infrastructure, and logistics.
The initiative is designed to harness the potential of every Ghanaian, every hour of the day, and reduce reliance on imports while boosting exports.
