Hearts of Oak coach Didi Dramani has pointed to positional lapses as a major factor in their defeat to Bibiani GoldStars in the GHALCA Top 4 tournament.
The Phobians came from behind twice to draw 2-2 in regulation time but were edged 5-4 on penalties at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday night.
“I think we lost some spaces both defensively and offensively, but in the latter part of the game we were able to rectify this, so we took control and that is how we were able to score the equaliser,” Dramani reflected after the match.
GoldStars drew first blood in the 18th minute when Raphael Amponsah’s foul gifted them a penalty, which Samuel Atta Kumi converted.
The Ghana Premier League champions extended their lead in the 34th minute, Atta Kumi finishing off after goalkeeper Benjamin Asare spilled a Sampson Eduku effort.
Hearts, however, clawed back into the contest as Martin Karikari dazzled through the defence before assisting George Paaku to make it 2-1 just before halftime.
Moments after the restart, Karikari again provided the supply, with Mohammed Hussein tapping home for the equaliser.
The match was ultimately settled on penalties, with Vincent Atingah scoring the decisive kick for GoldStars.
