Ghana condemns Israeli airstrikes on Qatar, calls for peaceful resolution

The Government of Ghana has condemned Israeli airstrikes on Qatar, describing them as a violation of international law and a threat to peace in the Middle East.

In a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said it had received with “deep concern” reports of the attack, which resulted in casualties and destruction of property in the Gulf state.

“The Government of the Republic of Ghana condemns the attack in view of the fact that the airstrikes constitute a clear violation of international law and an affront to the sovereignty of the State of Qatar,” the statement read. “This attack undermines the ongoing pursuit of peace between the States of Palestine and Israel.”

The Ministry said President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana stood in solidarity with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the citizens of Qatar “in these difficult times.”

It acknowledged Qatar’s role in peace efforts in the Middle East and urged that the incident should not be allowed to derail negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting settlement.

The government reaffirmed Ghana’s position in support of diplomacy as the most effective path to resolving disputes and maintaining global peace.
