Dr Cadman Mills, a brother of former President Prof John Evans Atta-Mills, has indicated his unhappiness with the President John Dramani Mahama led government over the fight with illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
In a post shared on X on Sunday [September 14, 2025], Cadman Mills pointed out that illegal mining [galamsey] was killing Ghanaians and must be stopped as a matter of urgency.
He indicated that the health of Ghanaians cannot be traded off for the economic success seen in the eight months of the Mahama administration.
“I REFUSE TO PAY FOR THE ACCOLADES PRESIDENT MAHAMA AND THE NDC ARE RECEIVING FOR THE CEDI’S RECOVERY WITH MY HEALTH OR LIFE.
“Call it galamsey or ‘legal’ small-scale mining (when bankrolled by the politically connected). It is killing us,” he wrote.
The post included a video that showed a water body heavily polluted by galamsey activities.
The man taking the video indicated that the water body was the Ayensu River, which is the source of water for many communities, including his.
This is the Ayensu River, this is the water we all drink. This is a river that feeds a lot of Ghanaians but because of the selfishness of a few, look at what it has turned into,” the man lamented as he fetched and poured out some of the water from the river.
