Ghana U20 striker nets first Belgian Pro League goal

Ghana U20 striker Joseph Opoku nets first Belgian Pro League goal in Zulte Waregem victory

Ghana U20 forward Joseph Opoku was on target for the first time in the Belgian Pro League as Zulte Waregem secured a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Sporting Charleroi on Saturday night.

The 19-year-old striker, who has been gradually making his mark in the top flight, drew his side level in the second half before a late winner sealed all three points for the newly-promoted outfit.

Charleroi had taken the lead after just 15 minutes when German midfielder Patrick Pflücke finished off a move assisted by Etienne Camara.

Waregem’s task was made easier nine minutes later when Syrian defender Aiham Ousou was shown a straight red card, leaving the hosts with ten men.

Opoku, who has been lively for Waregem since the start of the campaign, struck in the 62nd minute with a fine finish to restore parity.

His goal shifted the momentum in favour of the visitors, who kept pressing for the winner.

Veteran forward Jelle Van Vossen eventually found the decisive goal in stoppage time, connecting with an assist from Nigerian attacker Anosike Ementa.

Opoku lasted 77 minutes before being replaced by Albanian midfielder Serxho Ujka.

His Ghanaian compatriot Raymond Asante was an unused substitute for Charleroi.

The young Black Satellites striker has now featured eight times in the league, contributing one goal and three assists.
