The government of Ghana will take measures to demolish about 785 buildings on waterways, which is a major cause of flooding in Accra and other regions.
Accra has been flooding for years without any proper action. The Ministry’s new direction will ensure buildings on waterways are demolished for the free flow of rainwater in the capital.
The exercise in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly is part of efforts by the government to address the menace of flooding in Accra.

Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has expressed concern over the increasing rate of flooding and disasters caused by irresponsible human activities.
The Minister revealed that the Assembly is working on the necessary logistics to launch the assignment. Any building on waterways would be demolished to sanitise the nation’s capital.
Affected areas include Tseaddo, Kpeshie Reserves, Railway Reserve Line at Roman Ridge, Villagio site, Amanfro, and Teshi Bush Road in the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly that has led to the destruction of buffers meant to hold stormwater. Citizens with buildings on waterways will not be compensated by the government.
