
The 2025 Africa AirBadminton Championships have officially kicked off at Laboma Beach in Accra, bringing together approximately 108 athletes from 11 countries competing for honours across various categories.
Running from July 3 to 6, the tournament features Team Relay, Women’s Triples, and Men’s Triples events. The highest-ranked teams in the Team Relay category will earn qualification spots for the 2025 AirBadminton World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The opening ceremony, held on Thursday, July 3, brought together key stakeholders and dignitaries, including the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Iddie Adams; President of the Ghana Badminton Association, Mr Evans Yeboah; President of the Badminton Confederation Africa, Mr Bau Tukebana Michael; and President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr Richard Akpokavie.
In his remarks, Mr Adams praised the athletes for their enthusiasm and commended both the Local Organizing Committee and the Ghana Badminton Association for successfully hosting the tournament.
GOC President Richard Akpokavie extended his best wishes to the athletes, urging them to uphold the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship throughout the competition.

Ghana Badminton Association President Evans Yeboah encouraged the participants to remain dedicated and focused, stating:
“You stand here in truth, and you stand here as sportspeople. Everything you’ve invested will count toward the success you aim to achieve.”
Meanwhile, Badminton Confederation Africa President Bau Tukebana Michael emphasized the sport’s rapid global rise:
“AirBadminton is gaining momentum around the world. I guarantee that in the years to come, it will become even more popular—possibly the most popular—because it can be played on beaches, grass, and virtually anywhere.”
The competition continues today with exciting fixtures, promising a thrilling atmosphere for fans and athletes alike.
