Former Ghanaian international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has voiced reservations over Otto Addo’s present course for the Black Stars.
Following the senior national team’s dismal start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Agyemang-Badu made these comments.
Last Thursday at Baba Yara Stadium, the Black Stars lost 1-0 against Angola to start their campaign.
In their second Group F match on Monday in Berkane, Morocco, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Niger, demonstrating their ongoing struggles.
Ghana, the four-time AFCON champion, is now in third place in their group after two games due to these outcomes, having only earned one point.
Agyemang-Badu, a former player for Asante Kotoko and Udinese Calcio, raised doubt about the team’s present orientation after reviewing the team’s performance.
“With the kind of quality players we have and we switch three or four passes together to this extent that even when took the lead, Niger dominated the ball possession and had 16 shots and on target three and we played six shots and on target three and after the game, the Black Stars got one corner,” Agyemang-Badu, who is a FIFA U-20 World Cup winner said on Asempa FM‘s Sports Nite.
He further criticized the team’s performance, saying, “I don’t think where we are going is in the right direction. We have been playing in the finals. Now we are getting eliminated at the group stage and at the moment, we are struggling to even qualify from our group.
“I think things are getting tougher for us,” he added.
Ghana’s AFCON qualification campaign will resume in October with a doubleheader against Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan.
