Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, a former Ghana international, has expressed regret to the people of Ghana for publicly advocating for Otto Addo to be reappointed as the Black Stars coach.
The 33-year-old supported Addo to perform admirably after Chris Hughton was fired and was among those who cried out for his return.
Seven months into his second stint, though, the former Borussia Dortmund player has battled in the dugout as Ghana is on the verge of missing the Africa Cup of Nations competition the next year.
This comes after Ghana finished the AFCON qualifiers with just two points from four games, placing them behind Sudan and Angola.
Speaking following the Black Stars’ 2-0 loss against the Jediane Falcons, Agyemang-Badu acknowledged the gaffer’s challenges.
“I apologise [as I was part] of those who advocated for the second coming of coach Otto Addo. If you go into my interviews, I gave him massive support but I’m sorry,” he told Onua TV.
“It seems the task is beyond him.”
Addo has only won two games since the appointment in March; the other three have been drawn and three have been lost.
In order to secure a ticket to Morocco, the Black Stars will need to win their next two games in the AFCON qualifying series in November and hope that Sudan loses theirs. This is due to the outcome against Sudan.
