Due to an injury, Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku may miss the team’s forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.
Due to an injury, Djiku, who is part of Ghana’s team for games against Mali and the Central African Republic, has not yet reported to camp.
The 28-year-old was knocked out during Fenerbahce’s Turkish Super Lig championship match versus İstanbulspor.
The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, disclosed that Djiku’s ailment has caused his arrival to be delayed. Club physicians have notified both the Black Stars’ team medics and the technical staff of this development.
Twum claims that before the defender reports to the national team camp for the qualifiers, the medics will watch him for a day or two.
Twum told Happy FM:
“Alexander Djiku is yet to join the Black Stars due to an injury he picked up in their final game,”
“The club doctors got in touch with the Black Stars technical team and the team doctors and communicated that they would want to observe him for a day or two before he joins the Black Stars camp,”
Ghana hopes to get back to winning ways after having a win and a loss in their opening two World Cup qualifying matches in Group I.
The Black Stars defeated Comoros 1-0 in Moroni after defeating Madagascar 1-0 in Kumasi to start the campaign.
On Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako, the qualification vs Mali is slated to begin at 19:00.
After that, on Monday, June 10, 2024, Ghana will play the Central African Republic at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars, who are now in fourth place in Group I, are hoping to win both games in order to increase their chances of making it to the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
