Alexander Djiku Misses Ghana’s AFCON Qualifiers Due To Injuries

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) reports that Alexander Djiku would not play for Ghana in their forthcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger because of an injury.

The Turkish Super Lig player for Fenerbahce was forced to leave the field during Friday night’s encounter against Alanyaspor due to a thigh injury that occurred in the 61st minute of play.

Djiku will need 10–14 days to recuperate from an initial medical scan that found a Grade One strain in his right thigh’s quadriceps muscle. He will therefore be unable to participate in the AFCON qualifiers.

Djiku was first named in Otto Addo’s 23-man roster for Ghana’s international matches against Niger and Angola.

Thirteen appearances for the Black Stars have been made by the diligent center-back since his October 2020 debut for Ghana.

Ghana’s first Group F match is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 against Angola’s Palancas Negras. On September 9, they will travel to Berkane to play Niger in their second group match.
