Angola Coach Criticizes Ghana’s Pitch For 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

Pedro Goncalves, the head coach of Angola, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of the field at Baba Yara Stadium.

Following the Palancras Negras’ thrilling 1-0 victory over Ghana in their inaugural 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match on Thursday, the Portuguese coach expressed his worries.

Throughout the game, both teams had trouble on the poor playing surface, and Goncalves said, “A country like Ghana deserves a better pitch.”

Before the game, there had already been discussion over the pitch’s state.

Despite dominating the majority of the match, Ghana gave up a late goal due to a mistake on defense by Abdul Mumin, which gave Angola the victory.

Angola now concentrates on the upcoming qualifier against Sudan, who just overcame Niger.

On Monday, September 9, Ghana will play Niger in Berkane, and they will be looking to bounce back from their loss.

It is still unclear, though, if the Black Stars will still host their home games at Baba Yara Stadium.
