Black Stars’ all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan has addressed the issue of stripping off the captain band from him in 2019 by Coach Akwasi Appiah.
Asamoah Gyan wore the armband for seven years as leader of the Black Stars team from 2013 to 2019 but was given to Dede Ayew in the latter preparation for AFCON.
Ex-coach Akwasi Appiah in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah on Youtube that it was the right he did during that time. Though he had Gyan in his plans, he had to give the armband to Dede Ayew.

Baby Jet in addressing this issue with the same interviewer said he doesn’t agree with the action of the coach.
He lamented the coach shouldn’t have apologized to him if it was the right decision to be taken as he said.
He further stated that the timing of the decision was his problem, and he was not given any tangible reason for that effort.

“Other players were captains before me, so I don’t have a problem with him not being the captain anymore. But the timing was wrong, and I was giving even good reason” he stated.
