The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has committed to constructing a cocoa processing plant at Kukuom, which is situated in the Ahafo Region’s Asunafo South District.
Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the widespread problem of youth unemployment while promoting regional development throughout the nation while making a campaign stop in the Ahafo Region.
Building the cocoa processing facility is a component of his industrialization strategy, which is part of a larger plan for economic transformation that is centered on his proposed 24-hour economy policy.
Mahama’s 24-hour economy program aims to create a thriving, dynamic economy with businesses and industries running nonstop, around the clock.
The main goals of this program are to boost production, make goods and services more accessible, and—above all—create jobs, especially for young people.
By ensuring that industries like manufacturing, processing, logistics, and services can run around the clock, the strategy seeks to capitalize on Ghana’s burgeoning population and create additional shifts and employment for the nation’s growing labor force.
Mahama underscored that the cocoa processing plant would play a crucial role in his wider industrialization plan, which seeks to create industrial centers throughout the nation, especially in areas with substantial agricultural production.
“I was very happy with the chief’s submission because of his understanding of our 24-hour economy policy. We have realised that, to successfully implement the policy, we need to embark on a massive industrialisation drive and as part of that, we will construct a cocoa processing facility for the Kukuom community.
“This will discontinue the exportation of cocoa for processing.”
