The lead defendant in the continuing ambulance trial, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has directed his attorneys to ask the Chief Justice to broadcast the remaining portions of the trial on television.
On Thursday, May 30, the Chief Justice received a letter from his attorneys, Aziz Bamba and Associates, outlining this request.
According to Dr. Ato Forson, there have been new accusations of wrongdoing against Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, which is what spurred this request.
Richard Jakpa, the third accused, stated last week that he was encouraged to give a false statement against Dr. Ato Forson in the ongoing trial by the Attorney-General.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) made public a 16-minute tape that they said showed the Attorney General and Richard Jakpa having a conversation in support of Jakpa’s claims.
According to the recording, Dame gave Richard Jakpa advice on what to say in court to implicate Dr. Ato Forson.
NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah claimed during a May 28 press conference that the audio revealed a coaching session intended to sway Jakpa’s testimony.
Dr. Ato Forson contends that, in light of these events, live streaming the trial will preserve open justice principles and guarantee openness, enabling the public to make educated judgments and hold participants accountable.
Part of post says:
“In the wake of the recent exposé concerning the alleged misconduct of the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, I have instructed my lawyers to petition the Chief Justice for the live broadcast of all subsequent proceedings in the Ambulance Trial. This request is motivated by a deep commitment to transparency and open justice, principles that are fundamental to a fair and impartial legal system.”
“The allegations against the Attorney-General are deeply concerning. If true, they represent a serious breach of public trust and a threat to the integrity of our judicial system. It is imperative that these allegations be thoroughly investigated and that the public be given the opportunity to witness the proceedings firsthand,”
